Ya know, like when you set up a time to have family pictures done and one or more of the kids fall down and get the biggest shiner you have ever seen...has that ever happened to you???
Ya, me neither. Not even 3-4 times.
But I digress.
I got to spend the day AND night with my sweet husband on Wednesday. 23 hours with no kids.
NOT. ONE. SINGLE. KID.
WHAT? You say.
Yes it is true, and after we thought about it, we are pretty sure that was the first time we have not had at least 1-4 kids at home over night in over 6 years...since Agent P was born. There might have been 1 night in there somewhere...but definitely not since the twins were born. (over 3.5 years ago)
People don't just come running out of the woodwork begging to take our kids over night. It just doesn't happen. (I know - shocking right???) Not because they are bad kids...but because there are 4 of them. And they talk, A LOT.
BUT, Grandma and Grandpa must have been drinking a LOT of the wine they've been making and offered it up. And before they changed their minds, I got it scheduled. I also may have threatened to maim anyone who attempted to muck it up...but there is no actual proof of that.
They met us at swim lessons and drove off in my minivan with the 3 little kids (A-Dog is in Seattle visiting family) and I drove off in their Civic with no one but myself. The windows rolled down and the radio cranked like a Country song. OK, not really. It is summer here and we just don't drive around with the windows down. But, I did turn the radio up a bit... :)
I see you are perplexed, wondering where my sweet husband was in all this. Working. I told him not to meet me until our movie time at 1:15. I had some shopping to do. Alone. By myself. With no one there to
I shopped for NO ONE but myself. That is rare for me. But I stuck with it, you'd be proud. :)
I shopped, we saw a movie. Hangover 2.
We went to a bar and had a beer, watched a game and ate appetizers.
(insert imaginary photo of Nimbus Oatmeal Stout and nachos and pretzel bites - I don't have one, but close your eyes and imagine it)
We were party animals I tell ya. (insert imaginary picture of us getting really wild)
Truthfully, we had no clue what to do. We hadn't actually made a plan for fear of it not working out, so after that...we came home and sat outside by the pool.
I have to say, the house was unusually quiet.
It was nice to not decipher 4 conversations all at the same time or put anyone but ourselves to bed - but grateful that on a regular basis, we get to do that!
Okay, it is an Accord, not a Civic and we had not been sipping the wine (at that point - that came Wednesday night....). We were actually looking forward to it. Although I will say it is hard to decipher 3 conversations at one time???? We just kinda nodded like we understood. Had a great time and looking forward to the next time. :-) Gma
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when you made comments about Grandma and Grandpa drinking a lot of wine that they've made and finally offering (or was it really subliminal coercion) to watch the 3 little Lowes overnight! Just got through talking to your mom and got their side of the story! I think you owe them BIG TIME!!!!!! LOL!!!
